I'm *really* enjoying my iPad Pro M5, but I'm quite surprised about how frustrating using an iPad Pro in 2025 can be, after many years now of refinements and iterations on the software side:
- •Most apps don't support Cmd+K / Search like their Mac versions
- •Some text inputs still behave oddly, not resizing to fit content
- •Windowing has improved but still more cumbersome than macOS
- •Apps get stuck in weird states (can't re-open sidebar, have to force quit)
- •Gesture navigation is inconsistent, for example some apps support multi-finger swipes, in others you need to hold and drag
- •Strangely still no always-on display, and it would make a ton of sense
- •External display support is still messy, I couldn't even get Final Cut to properly go fullscreen on a Studio Display
- •File management is still rough (more on third party devs, but still)
- •Can't see keyboard shortcuts by holding ⌘ anymore
I can just hope the next iPadOS will address some of these things to bring it more on-par with macOS.
It is an amazing device though. With these latest Apple Silicon chips, everything is unbelievably smooth and snappy.
